Are you scratching your head trying to figure out what defines western bedding? If you are, you have every reason to wonder. The main reason for this is that western-themed bedding is a big and diverse family. The advantage is that there literally is something for everybody. When many people think of western themes, they picture cowboys, barb wire, horses, tack, sunsets, cactus plants, red sunsets, and images of the prairie. Some people think of the sub-division known as 'southwest' that features tiles, turquoise blue, and lots of overlapping geometric designs that can be a bit much. Western-themed bedding goes far above and beyond whatever perceptions you may have of it. So if you're skeptical, look a little further!

Western-themed bedding comes in traditional, modern, luxurious, and even whimsical themes. The most popular western themed bedding designs are luxurious options. Wouldn't it be nice to slide under a comforter that is soft and touchable micro-suede? The luxury ensembles are typically done in a modern style and tend to be fairly neutral in color, so you can be assured your investment will outlast trends. Western details are incorporated, like an embroidered barb-wire border. As far as traditional designs, think horizontal patterns and ruffled bed skirts. Often the bed skirt and comforter feature the same color but in different patterns. Whimsical designs are super fun too. They are a great way to incorporate a child's room into the larger theme of the house. Whimsical themes usually feature big, bold patterns that contrast each other but coordinate through a shared color and/or design aspect. We like this one that features chipper polka dots and pink paisleys. The polka dot/paisley design is also available in a crib option, so baby can snooze in style too. For modern themes, western themed bedding offers many options too. Modern designs feature clean lines, subtle details, and perfectly coordinated fabrics/patterns. Most of these sets will heavily feature one neutral color and a simple pattern that is used through all the pieces. Embroidery is also a feature found on modern western themed bedding. You'll find everything from cowboys to stars!

Western bedding is a versatile and wide open field. It is best defined as anything that makes you think of forests, prairies, cowboys, homesteaders, pioneers, etc. It is a wonderful place to start when you are decorating a home because of all the styles and options available!
